President’s GreetingMESSAGE

We Will Nurture Clothing
Culture while
Contributing
to the Formation of
Sustainable Society.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude for your continued support of Chikuma. Since our foundation in 1903, we, as a textiles trading company, have contributed to the development of the industry together with many business partners. Following our corporate philosophy of coexistence and co-prosperity in our operations, we currently concentrate on efforts for the environment, safety, and peace of mind.

In 2015, the United Nations adopted Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Before the launch of these international goals, Chikuma set up the Environment Promotion Office in 1995 and has engaged in the recycling business. Today, society has recognized our many recycling efforts, and we have brought about significant results.

In the used clothes recycling business, we collect, recycle and supply used clothes to automobile manufacturers and others as materials for the interiors and exteriors of cars in cooperation with Kitakyushu. Our materials development concentrates on the use of materials based on recycled plastic bottles, and in terms of product design, we focus on the planning and development of universally designed products that are friendly to the elderly and the disabled. In production, we visit affiliated factories in Japan and abroad on a regular basis and conduct CSR audits to check for any socially unethical behavior such as environmental destruction, violations of the law, and human rights violations at the factories.

We have also established a streamlined system, constantly ensuring results in physical distribution, including the use of common hangers among multiple manufacturers, and the reuse of packaging materials. Additionally, we will fulfil our responsibility as a corporation to realize SDGs by 2030, the year targeted for the accomplishment of SDGs. For example, we are starting the full replacement of regular fabric materials with eco-friendly materials.

Furthermore, we focus on fukuiku activities for fostering rich souls through clothing as a part of our business involvement in the textile industry. Since the beginning of fukuiku in 2004, we have offered opportunities to think about the roles and power of clothes through the understanding and cooperation of educators and local residents, furthering understanding about, for example, communication through clothes, and environmental issues seen from the viewpoint of clothing. We will share the circle of fukuiku that is spreading primarily among educators with more people and do what we can do to realize a better future through clothes.

The Japanese era has changed from Heisei to Reiwa. Chikuma celebrated the 120th anniversary in 2023.
We will continue to make efforts to create a future together with you while appreciating the history that we have built with our business partners in the textile industry.
